Online Security Overview
Online communities are full of opportunities for hackers, whether those hackers are just having fun or trying to steal information. Regardless of the reason we want to share some information with you to better secure your accounts and avoid the consequences of leaking your information, or having your information/accounts stolen and/or hacked.
Strong Passwords Passphrases
Stop using passwords, and start using passphrases that include numbers and special characters. A passphrase is a string of words that makes a memorable, and EXTREMELY difficult to hack protection for your account. The more characters in a passphrase/password the harder it is to crack.
Password Example: PecEtjiarley-38
Passphrase Example: YouWi!!N3v3rFigur3OutThisPassphras3B3caus3IAmAmazing
Which one is more memorable above? Our brains also do a great job converting those numbers and characters into letters so when we are reading it we can see the ll not the !!, and the e not the 3. Yes the password is difficult, but the passphrase is going to be easier for your to remember and harder for the world to crack. This video has more information about passwords vs passphrases.

Two Factor Authentication (2FAC)
THIS IS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR SECURING YOUR INFORMATION, AND YOUR ACCOUNTS. Generally speaking 2FAC is the process of logging in to an account using your username and password (hopefully passphrase now), and then using an app to enter in a constantly changing code. This process is extremely easy to use and setup, but also even more difficult to hack. There are some 2FAC setups where you will be texted a code, or emailed a code (like Roblox sends an email, Google uses text, email, 2FAC App, and more).
2FAC is simply a way of making your accounts more secured. While not all applications are using 2FAC yet, it is the industry standard, and you’ll most definitely see more and more applications offering and/or requiring it. YouTube for example requires it for Channels to use YouTube Studio, or any applications that involve money/transactions. Google has it available when logging into a new device. Discord has the option to ensure your moderators have 2FAC so someone can’t hack their account and destroy your server.
Here’s a video as to why you should use 2FAC
