Rest in Peace Sarah “POG Mom” McGloghlon – October 9, 1986 – August 1, 2023
Noob Family Gaming (POG Family) is a family run company intertwined in the world of YouTube. We have four YouTube channels POG Family (VLOG), and POG Family Gaming!
Why Noob Family Gaming? Noob is term used for someone that is new to something. Quickly Noob was coined as a negative term to put someone down for not being good enough at a game. On our YouTube platform we decided to take ownership of the word Noob, and allow it to be a term of pride. In addition, the games we play on our own time are much different than what we play in YouTube, truly making us Noobs in the games we play, Noobs in running a YouTube channel, and Noobs at running a business. Either way, we took pride in being Noobs, we owned, and we are ensuring that being a Noob isn’t a bad thing, but a good thing. When you are willing to be a Noob, you are willing to step out of your comfort zone, try something new, and not give up. So own your Noob Status, and learn something new.
We started out as a simple YouTube Channel, Braedan Plays. In January 2019 Braedan wanted to start a channel, and we did. With no knowledge of what to do, and just randomly jumping in we found it was too much work, and Braedan was too young to really make it work at the time. A couple years later, after watching some Mr. Beast, Preston, and BeckBroJack, Braedan wanted to try again. When asked why he wanted to become a YouTuber he shared “I wanted to be able to use the money I make to buy the food trucks [in our city] and feed all of the homeless people.” Obviously we had no choice but to agree. This time we put in the work to get to know how to be more successful. We started the channel back up, made some significant changes, and went strong. The channel ever so slowly grew.
After building some subscribers, we reached a milestone and did our first live stream. Oh my, we found our calling! During the live stream we found how much fun it was to interact with viewers immediately. We also found how much stronger our channel became, and growth started happening without as much work. We loved it, and from there on we kept streaming, and uploading content.
All things have their struggles right? No different here. We were growing strong, but suddenly YouTube stopped allowing us to stream. Braedan was deemed too young to stream alone per YouTube terms of service and we were shut down. We read more closely the terms, to find that an adult needed to be visibly supervising the stream. So we changed our setup. But, YouTube was not quick to respond… So we were down. Our viewers were confused, but patient.
This moment, this mistake, this time where we considered giving up is where we made really the made the decision to make this a business option. At this point we were uploading content to Braedan Plays, but had no way to stream. So we created a new channel POG Family. A place where we could stream, upload family friendly content, have fun, and well start all over. It was terrifying. But, we did it. And it went amazingly.
Fast forward to today… Braedan has more control over POG Family Gaming and Toys and Fun, albeit still supervised. POG Family Gaming is based around Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox which connects his passion for the gaming to what he wants to do for the rest of his life –> YouTube.
As a family we pride ourselves in creating a friendly, safe, inclusive, fun environment for the people that join us. A community of people (not just gamers) that want to hang out, have fun, laugh together, and be treated with respect by everyone. We are a group of people learning together, working together, gaming together, and becoming much more than just people watching YouTube. Our community allows for life lesson building, learning to appreciate people’s differences, respecting each other and understanding we all make mistakes, and giving second chances because we all have bad days. We are a community that is always striving to be better, not at gaming, but at being humans that care about other humans, animals, and the environment.
Around August 2022 we decided to separate POG Family, and POG Family Gaming to allow a clear platform for Sarah’s cancer journey, and our gaming content. We wanted to separate the two to allow both audiences clarity, as Roblox Gaming and Cancer VLOGs are very confusing together in one place. This brought to you POG Family which is now mostly focused on Sarah’s cancer journey, and growing a community of support, not just for Sarah, but for the each other as well.
